Last week, we went for a walk not far from La Tour du Roy. A 14.50m high quadrangular tower divided into 3 levels which is the only Romanesque donjon still intact in Gironde. Located inside the city walls, the building rests on a rocky massif isolated from all sides and carved with natural caves and quarries exploited since the Middle Ages.

Indeed, under the Tour du Roy is the oldest house where Crémants de Bordeaux has been made. Founded in 1886 in exceptional monolithic cellars and now producing more than 91 crémants de Bordeaux, Les Caves de la Tour du Roy invites you to come and taste and at the same time visit these immense caves, full of historical relics.

Crémant de Bordeaux is a French white or rosé sparkling wine with a registered designation of origin (AOC), in order to be eligible for the appellation, many criteria must be respected. The inclination of the bottles, the frequency with which the bottles must be moved as well as in which direction, the duration with which they remain in the cellar or the sugar content which must not exceed 23 grams, if all these conditions are respected then it is a crémant worthy of the appellation.
